Three Pieces of Essential Equipment for a Livery Yard

A livery yard is a boarding facility for horses where they are looked after by staff for the horses' owners who normally don't have the facilities to keep them at home. There are different types of livery from full livery where horses are exercised, fed, watered and mucked out by staff to DIY livery where a paddock and stable is normally provided and the rest is up to the owner. There are some essential pieces of equipment that are needed in livery yards, including the following three:

1) Horse Walker

A horse walker is a mechanical unit that allows four to six horses to exercise at once, by walking, cantering or trotting round in a circle. The speed is dictated by the livery yard worker who sets the pace on the horse walker, depending on what exercise the horses need. These units are particularly useful for helping a horse to get healthy after an injury or illness and they save a lot of time in a livery yard when it comes to exercising the animals.

2) Timber Stables

As mentioned, even the simplest form of livery offers a stable for the horse to stay in and timber stables are as good as it gets for our equine friends. Timber stables can be individual structures or multiple stables joined together - the latter being more useful for a livery yard.

3) Stable Matting

You may think that the floor of a stable just consists of old straw but modern stable matting is very high-tech. Anti-slip matting has been developed to keep horses safe if the floor of their stable gets wet and this matting is also available for horse boxes.

For horses to be looked after properly a livery yard needs the right equipment, and to keep them fit and well the above three things are vital.
